Dude, That’s Rude!: (Get Some Manners) (Laugh and Learn)

Kids today need manners more than ever, and this book (part of the Free Spirit Laugh & Learn[TM] series) makes it fun and easy to get some. Full-color cartoons and kid-friendly text teach the basics of polite behavior in all kinds of situations while keeping young readers entertained on every page. Kids learn Power Words to use and P.U. Words to avoid, why their family deserves their best manners, how to yawn, how to burp, how to meet new people, how to treat a guest and be one, the right ways to use phones (including cell phones), school manners, mall manners, body manners, potty manners, the Top Ten Table Manners, and the essentials of e-tiquette (politeness online). It may seem like light reading, but it’s serious stuff: Manners are major social skills, and Dude, That’s Rude! gives kids a great start.
User Ratings and Reviews
5 Stars Gets attention
I used this little book with my four grandkids ages 11, 10, 9 and 8. They enjoyed it and even used some of the practices in front of me! It is written in kid style, but pulls no punches. Just what this grandmother was looking for.
5 Stars Really Funny!
I have two boys, ages 10 & 12, and they got a real kick out of this book. I did too! It is a good overview of manners of all kinds, but in a humorous setting. I would recommend it to anyone with kids who need a “brush up” on manners. Very well written.
4 Stars Son actually WANTED to read it!
I got this for my 9 year old step son and was wondering how to open the subject with him. I just laid the book somewhere and he ended up picking it up and reading it, then he also took it on a road trip with us and kept telling us things he learned. It was great!
So far, I’m not seeing a huge difference in his manners, but at least I have something to refer to and can say, “remember what your book says?”
5 Stars Comprehensive and hilarious
This book was perfect for my 9-year-old, who really enjoyed the funny sections but also learned a lot from the informative text. It covers everything - from cell phones to dinner table manners to even “fartiquette” - and has full-color art as well so it was fun shared reading. An excellent resource for easing kids’ fears about social situations and for promoting mannered behavior in today’s kids.
4 Stars Great book, geared for preteens
I bought the book for my six year old. She has enjoyed it. In general I think it’s aimed more at preteens and teens, talking about body odor, etc. I was looking more for a manners book that addressed etiquette situations.
