4 Stars Changed the way I look at Social Networking and My Career
This book begins a little slow in order to get readers up to speed on the concepts of career branding. The good news is that the book when coupled with serious thought and the online workbook- creates a strong set of tools for creating a personal brand. By using this book and tools such as Twitter, Blogs, Facebook and Linked In- a person can make strong headway in the realm of personal branding.
For no other reason than to sit down and focus on the Vision a person has with their career, this book is wonderful. I strongly recommend this to people who are focusing on making an impact in their career. The information is timely, but the Internet data is a bit dated. I would recommend using integration points with Twitter as a focus to begin creating an online identity.
This book has changed my outlook on my career and proven that you must drive your career and not sit back to enjoy the job you are in. Moving forward will only happen when you push and develop your own brand.

Career Distinction is not just another self-help read, put it down and forget it. This is more of a workbook to construct your personal brand. Career Distinction is not only full of great advice, but also provides action steps toward creating your brand.
Be prepared this is not just a zip through quick read. [...]. Here you take a personal assement of how you see your brand today, what you want your brand to be tomorrow, and request those that know you best (co-workers, family and friends) to assess your brand.
You are also provided with the Career Distinction workbook, so you can outline you action steps to build your brand. This book is a very helpful planning guide to becoming the person you want to be and advancing your career.
4 Stars Consider yourself the product
Interesting read. Helps you to consider yourself as a valuable product - able to enter an organization and apply your skills and experiences to improve their bottom line. Essentially “advertising” yourself and using consistent branding methods so you will be remembered for what’s most important. For example if a group of people see the Apple logo, the majority of that group will think “innovation”. If they see Volvo, they think “safety”. Apple and Volvo built the brands to instill those ideals.
5 Stars Personal branding never ends
Arruda & Dixson have captured the essence of personal branding in “Career Distinction”. They outline many steps that we can take to improve our personal brand, both off-line and on-line to enhance our overall reputation. I encourage my undergraduate students to do these things as they look for internships and jobs, but this was a good reminder that there is always more you can do to enhance your brand with clarity, consistency and constancy.
